《英语阅读II》是外国语学院英语系英语本科专业一年级开设的一门专业核心课程。
阅读课的特征体现在"广"与"读"两个方面。阅读课所选的语言材料的主题广泛，内容呈百科知识性，涵盖社会、文化、教育、科技、经贸、历史、文学、艺术、政治、环境保护等各个领域。语言材料的文体呈多样性，有说明文、议论文、新闻等语言风格不同的各类文章。通过广泛阅读，学生可了解西方国家的社会文化，理解中西方之间的文化差异，从而培养其跨文化交际能力。就"读"而言，通过本课程学习，学生可掌握科学的泛读训练方法，提高阅读能力；同时进一步掌握词汇、句法、篇章等方面的知识。另外，阅读材料可作为思辨材料，通过课堂活动，可培养学生的批判性思维 ，助其树立正确的价值观、爱国情怀和道德情操。
